Hello, welcome to my blog. My name is Faye and this blog is a chronicle of my sewing/creative journey. I live in a beautiful little village in the Northwest of England with my wonderful husband who’s a programmer by day and an aspiring writer by night. I was actually born and raised in Indonesia. I am a serial hobbyist, when I’m not sewing, you’ll find me sketching/drawing/painting, journaling, playing with yarn, or creating in the kitchen. What can I say, creativity is my jam.
I started sewing in October 2016, so I’m fairly new to this. I wish I could say that I learned sewing from my Mother or Grandmother, but no… just the good ole internet and books for me. That being said though, my Oma (grandmother) from my Mum’s side, she did sew, knit, embroider, she basically was a maker. Sadly, I never knew her, she passed away before I was born. How I wish I grew up with her around, I can almost see myself hanging out with her, learning from her, how wonderful that would’ve been. Oh I’ve got tears in my eyes just writing this now. I love listening to my Mum telling me stories about my Oma, makes me feel like I knew her. So every time I sew (or knit or bake), I feel connected to my Oma. My Mum said that she and her sisters never bought clothes from the shops as her Mum would make everything for them, and they were beautiful and fashionable makes too. Oma also spoiled her first grandchild with garment and accessories she made herself – I wish that was me. Unfortunately Mum doesn’t inherit my Oma’s love for making things, neither do her sisters. So I couldn’t really learn about making from my Mum. It’s strange how it just skipped a generation, and then reappeared in me. I guess I can say that sewing is in my blood?
Anyways, I hope you enjoy reading my blog. Thank you for following along my creative journey.
