Anza Dress – Itch to Stitch | WIP

Hello my beloved readers, I hope you’re all doing well. Today’s post is going to be a sort of touch-base one. I haven’t got a finished object to share as I’m currently still working on the Anza dress and toile for the jumpsuit version. I’m really taking my time with my projects now, so please bear with me. I discovered that I didn’t need to change anything for the bodice, but the skirt length was too long for me – as per usual. I need to tweak the trouser pattern pieces though, the fit isn’t right yet.

The fabric I’m using is this beautiful watercolour bird print viscose -linen blend that I found in Abakhan last month. I have been seeing this fabric in a lot of independent fabric shops lately too, in various colours. Mine is in pink, and I also purchased 3 metres of the navy blue version that I’m going to turn into the jumpsuit version of this pattern. This fabric is 55% viscose and 45% linen, so the drape is quite nice. It does have a bit of linen texture to it and is slightly looser in weave but not see through, which is nice.

This pattern has been around for quite a while actually, but I haven’t seen many versions of it. I purchased my copy from Indiesew and I used Netprinter to print out my pieces – there are 6 A0 pages to print, so I wasn’t going to print them out at home and piece them together myself, no thank you. The pattern also offers different cup sizes, so no SBA/FBA needed, yaaay!

At the time of writing, I’ve finished the bodice and am about to move on to the breast pockets. They are lined and they have pleat detail which I like, but to be honest I’m not sure they would work nicely with my choice of fabric what with the print being quite big. I think I should’ve done pattern-matching. Ah well…

My plan is to finish this dress this weekend, move on straight to the jumpsuit, and post my full review next week. Fingers crossed. So far I’m really enjoying taking my projects slow. This also gives me the chance to explore my other creative outlets and that makes me feel a bit more balanced, which is good. I keep telling myself that Patrick and Esme aren’t in my studio watching me like a hawk LOL. I can’t believe how little time the contestants in the GBSB get to finish a garment, a coat in a few hours??? Yikes! If I were there I would’ve probably been sent home even before the challenge started hahaha. Are you excited about the final? I love all three of the finalists, but if I were to choose one to be my favourite, it’s got to be Riccardo. He’s just sooooo creative! He’s like a huge bundle of creative energy, bursting at the seams (see what I did there? 😉 ).
